It can be, if you already have decks there. Upload an Anki .apkg or .colpkg export and your scheduling comes with it; paste a Quizlet set's exported text and it is split into cards for you. From there CardPuff's angle is different: deck-building itself is assisted, with AI translation, explanation mode, topic-based generation, and camera scan, and the review schedule is a simple 5-level system rather than a tunable algorithm. It runs in the browser with nothing to install and syncs across your devices.

CardPuff supports arbitrary source and target language pairs! Whether you are learning Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, English, or custom dialects, CardPuff adapts seamlessly.

There are two modes, and CardPuff picks between them from your deck's own languages. If the two languages differ, the AI fills in the translation. If they are the same, it writes a short plain-language explanation instead — useful for studying terminology in a language you already speak. You can also skip the word list entirely and describe a topic, and the AI drafts 5 to 30 cards for you to review before saving.

Yes! You can bulk import CSV files, paste plaintext vocabulary lists, use camera OCR to extract terms directly from scanned images and printed documents, upload an Anki .apkg or .colpkg deck, or paste a set exported from Quizlet.

By default it is kept: each card's Anki interval decides its starting CardPuff level, and its next review date carries over, so nothing you have already learned goes back to square one. You can turn that off to start every card at Level 0 instead. Either way, you choose which decks to bring in and which note field becomes the front and which becomes the back before anything is saved. Audio and images are not imported.

Yes. Share live read-only decks publicly by link and access code or privately with invited email addresses. Recipients cannot edit the owner’s cards and keep their own study progress.

Yes. The free plan covers unlimited decks and cards, the full spaced-repetition schedule, manual, paste and CSV creation, pronunciation, progress tracking, CSV export, and study sessions of 10, 20, or 30 cards. The AI features are metered rather than removed: 300 AI-translated, explained, or generated words per month, and 2 camera scans per month. Both allowances reset at the start of each month, and no card is required.

Pro raises the AI allowance to 5,000 words a month and image scans to 50, and unlocks live deck sharing, Reverse Study mode, printable and PDF exports, custom revision intervals, project and card colour customization, auto-play and card font controls, and study sessions of 50 or All cards.

It is one of the most consistently replicated findings in memory research: reviewing material at widening intervals produces far better long-term recall than the same time spent re-reading. CardPuff's job is to track when each card is next worth seeing so you do not have to. What it cannot do is study for you — the schedule only pays off if you come back on the days cards are due.
